Frank Lucas cleared the first hurdle Tuesday in his bid for an eighth full term in the U.S. House of Representatives and now will face a Democrat against whom he won 78.6 percent of the vote in 2014.

With all the Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks displays being held in the area this weekend, there won’t be any excuse for not having fun. Festivities are planned from Friday evening through Monday. Some of the events include parties, and fireworks displays can be found each evening.

A mass of Christian burial for Johnny “Poncho” Galvan Sr., 68, of Butler, will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton.

Jesse V. Hayes

Memorial services for Jesse V. Hayes, 82, of Zellwood, Fla., formerly from Clinton, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kiesau-Lee Memorial Chapel.
Hayes died Aug. 12, 2015.

Joey Lee

Funeral services for Joey Lee, 37, Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel.
He died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, in Oklahoma City.
