Funeral services for Fred Burden, 88, Clinton, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rose Chapel in Sayre, officiated by Doyle Kenny.
Burden died Dec. 25, 2013 at Clinton. He was born April 14, 1925, in Sayre, the son of Frances and Jim Burden.
Burden was the last of 8 children and spent his school years at New Liberty. After his father had a heart attack, he went to work on the family farm.
After a few business ventures, he returned to farming and ranching, but his true passion was horses and training them.
He married Ruby June (Taylor) Burden at Shamrock, Texas, on May 7, 1947. They moved to Mangum and owned a bakery and eventually moved back to Sayre, where they made their home.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; granddaughter, Lori Kaye Burden; three brothers, Johnny, Jewel and Hack Burden; and three sisters, Claudie Blackburn, Anna Belle Kirtley and Elizabeth Hall.
Survivors include a son, Mike Burden and wife, Connie, Clinton; daughter, Katy White and her husband Jim, Bentonville, Ark.; four grandchildren, Joey White and his wife Cheryl, Rogers, Ark., Tammy Needham and her husband Mike, Bentonville, Ark., Linda Wilhelm and her husband Jerry, Clinton, and Julie Menge and her husband Ray, Clinton; nine great-grandchildren, Seth White, Luke White, Cale White, Sage White, Jebb White, Jake Needham, Jaima Needham, Mycah Wilhelm and Tate Wilhelm; one great-great-granddaughter, Abby Needham; and one sister, Opal Franks, Austin, Texas.
Burial will be at Lone Oak Cemetery, under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Sayre.
