Clare Caldwell, mother of Marian Tisdal, was born on May 3, 1928, and passed away in Tulsa, OK, on July 21, 2019 at the age of 91. She was born in Milburn, OK, to Clarence Monroe Hoard, DVM, and Gorda Francis Hoard. Dr. Hoard died a few months after Clare was born, and she was raised by her single mother as an only child. Clare and her mother moved to Durant, OK before Clare started school, and she graduated from Durant High School.
She married William C. (Bill) Caldwell, former WWII Air Force B-17 pilot and POW, on May 25, 1947, in Durant, OK. In 1948, their daughter Nancy was born, and in 1950, their daughter Marian was born. In 1954, they were transferred by New York Life Insurance to Tulsa. In 1957, their son, William Clare (Buddy) was born.
They were active members in Tulsa of University United Methodist Church and New Haven United Methodist Church, and finally, 35 years at Springs United Methodist Church.
Clare graduated from The University of Tulsa in 1965 and began her English career with Tulsa Public Schools.
In 2014, Clare and Bill left Sand Springs and moved to Burgundy Place Senior Living in Tulsa, and in 2018, they moved to Legend Assisted Living-Tulsa Hills.
Clare is survived by her husband, Bill, of 72 years; children, Nancy Day (Dean). Marian Tisdal (Mart), and Buddy Caldwell (Julie); grandchildren, Julia Tisdal, Lance Day (Summer), Ash Day, Logan Tisdal, Courtney Peterson (Nick) and Callie Wolf (Justin); and great-grandchildren, Parker Day, Madelyn Day and Scottie Gray Peterson.
Services will be held in Tulsa, at 1:30 pm on Friday, July 26, at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church and burial at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. The family has requested that memorial donations in Clare’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice of Green Country or a charity of your choice.
