Graveside service for Gordon Thacker, Jr., 81 year-old Weatherford resident, will be held Monday, February, 6, 2023, 2:00 P.M. in the Greenwood Cemetery with David Lawrence officiating. Services are under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Gordon was born on February 8, 1941, in Weatherford, to Gordon Sr. and Clarice Jane (Clayton) Thacker and passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. Gordon was raised and attended school in Weatherford, graduating from Weatherford High School. He worked at the Tech Theater during his younger years.
Gordon earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from SWOSU in 1966. He served in the US Army during Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. Upon his return to Weatherford, he worked at Thacker Brick and Stone Construction and later Veal’s Locker Plant. Gordon worked as a sound and lighting technician with the Trader Price Band and toured all over the world with Roy Orbison from 1977-1981.
After he retired, he was caregiver to his parents and siblings for the remainder of his life. Gordon enjoyed coin collecting, working on genealogy, and spending time with family and friends.
Gordon is survived by three nephews, Tom Dean Thacker of Weatherford, Eddie Veal of Clinton and Donnie Veal of Weatherford; one niece, Judy Hargues of Elk City; sisterin- law, Mary Alice Thacker of Weatherford; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don and Tommie; and three sisters, Donna, Beulah and Geraldine.
