Cy Howenstine, IV transitioned from this life to the next on Friday, May 19, 2023 in Elk City, Oklahoma. Cy was born March 13, 1952 in Clinton OK to Witcher Cy and Maralyn Lee (Orgain) Howenstine.
Cy attended Stillwater Public Schools until his senior year; he graduated from Katy Texas High School in 1971. He continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. On August 4, 1973 he married Janice Lydia Reed in Putnam, OK.
Cy held many different jobs during his career, but for the last 27 years of his career he worked for the citizens of Roger Mills County, retiring as Emergency Manager in 2018.
Cy served the Cheyenne Pack and Boy Scout Troop 108 for several decades; six of his scouts earned the rank of Eagle.
Cy was a member of the Cheyenne First Methodist Church where he served several terms on the Trustee Board. Cy was also passionate about the sack lunch ministry of the church. Cy enjoyed cooking, gardening, and tinkering with technol-ogy.
In his later years he enjoyed traveling with his family.
Survivors include his wife Janice of the home; one daughter April Miller and husband Tim of Clinton, OK; one grandson James Miller and special grandchildren Katelynn and Hannah Howenstine. Special great-grandchildren Caleb, Evelyn, and Leanna Marques; one sister Cindy Baird and husband Butch of Woodward, OK; bonus siblings Sean Howenstine and wife J.J. of Arapaho, Heather Howenstine of Oklahoma City and Maralee Wassana of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by many in the community who called him “Uncle Cy”.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Pat Versteeg, Scott Ford, Marty Creach, Russell Salisbury, Devin Dye, David Montgomery, Clifton Keahey and Sean Howenstine.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the Cheyenne First Methodist Church, with Reverend Amanda Lockwood officiating. Burial will be in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home in Vici. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheyenne First Methodist Church Sack Lunch Ministry.
