Memorial Services for Mr. Eugene Powers, age 85, of Custer City, Oklahoma, will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, in the Custer City United Methodist Church, 705 South Main St., with Pastor Greg Keith officiating.
Eugene Calvin Powers was born Nov. 20, 1933 in Thomas, Oklahoma, the son of Eddie and Julia (Corn) Powers. He was reared and educated in Independence, Oklahoma, earning his high school diploma from Independence Public Schools in 1952. He later was united in marriage to Miss Ella Bontrager on Aug. 12, 1955, in Thomas, Oklahoma. After his marriage to Ella, Eugene enlisted into the United States Army in 1956 being stationed in Kileen, Texas. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1958.
Eugene was employed with Case Implement Company for seven years before beginning a 23-year career with Lorenz John Deere, retiring as the Parts Manager in 1996.
Eugene and Ella enjoyed traveling with their fifth wheel, spending nearly 20 years in Donna, Texas, during the winter months. They would often travel to Colorado spending summers there. Eugene also loved to fish and go boating, but his favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends.
Eugene passed away Thursday afternoon, October 17, 2019 in the Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford, Oklahoma, with his family by his side.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ella Powers of the home in Custer City; one son, Lonnie Eugene Powers of Clinton, Oklahoma; two daughters, Louella Vaughan and her husband, Larry, and Lacinda Beard, all of Weatherford, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; Keely Norfolk of Eakly, Oklahoma, Kristin Carpenter and her husband, Kendall, of Yukon, Oklahoma, Gavin Powers and his wife, Katy, of Olympia, Washington, Melanie Deaton and her husband, Danny, of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Angela Vaughan and her husband, Richard Caudillo of Elk City, Oklahoma, Kyle Collier and his wife, Jordan, of Houston, Texas, and Jacie Powers of Clinton, Oklahoma; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Zella Marie Brown and her husband, Loy, and Judy Smith and her husband, James, all of Weatherford, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Jean Powers of Yukon, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Duane Powers and Bill Powers and one brother-in-law, Dean Gifford.
Honorary Pallbearers are Rex Hoffman, Bob Bourlier, Ronnie Ferguson, Mike Travis, Brandon Friesen, John Collier, Wesley Sehi and Bryan Reed.
The Powers Family greeted friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, at the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, 2500 W. Modelle Ave., in Clinton.
