Beverly Joan Reimers was born to Wayne and Eva Reimers of Custer City, Okla., on Sept. 14, 1946, and died in Oklahoma City, Okla., on April 29, 2020.
Raised on a country farm, she rode the school bus to a country school in Arapaho, Okla., for 12 years with less than 20 students in her graduating class in 1964. Joan graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla., with an emphasis in English and Speech. She continued her studies and obtained a Master’s of Education from the same university. She earned a Master’s of Business from the University of Phoenix while working in California.
As a young child she treasured her dolls, always kept in their original boxes, and had a flair and love for fashion that was the envy of many.
She was an accomplished teacher, director of community plays and speech competition. In 1976 she pursued a career in long-term care administration before returning to teaching in Sydney, Australia. After 10 years in Australia she continued teaching in Tulsa, Okla., until her retirement in 2012.
Joan is survived by three sisters, Sue Crystal of Las Vegas, Nev., Linda Stephenson of Clinton, Okla., and Kay Killgore and husband Mike of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
