The tragic story of a young mother and her infant daughter who died a few weeks apart in 1912 as a result of the same tornado – called by news media of the time as a “cyclone” – was one of the sad highlights of Monday afternoon’s Sunset Tour of the Clinton Cemetery.

Clinton residents wanting to rid their homes and properties of trash, yard waste and other unwanted debris may do so for free at the town’s annual city-wide cleanup event to be held on Friday and Saturday. Hazardous waste materials will not be accepted.

Boy Scout Troop 361 and Clinton Masonic Lodge 339 will team up once again to hold the troop’s annual hamburger and hot dog fry and silent auction, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Monday in the fellowship hall of the United Methodist Church in Clinton.

A body found April 11 in a wooded area near the Phillips Lane Apartments in southwest Clinton has been confirmed as that of local resident Brian Denney, 46, who had been missing since April 1, Police Chief Paul Rinkel said late Monday afternoon.
