LONDON (AP) — More than 8 million people were diagnosed with tuberculosis last year, the World Health Organization said Tuesday, the highest number recorded since the U.N. health agency began keeping track. About 1.25 million people died of TB last year, the new report said, adding that TB likely returned to being the world’s top infectious disease killer after being replaced by COVID-19 during the pandemic. The deaths are almost double the number of people killed by HIV in 2023.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday launched a massive exercise of the country’s nuclear forces featuring missile launches in a simulation of a retaliatory strike, as he continued to flex the country’s nuclear muscle amid spiraling tensions with the West over Ukraine.

Sunday firefighters from towns across Custer County including Clinton traveled to Comanche County to assist in fighting a wildfire that is still raging on.

As national Election Day fast approaches, Clinton residents are also fast approaching one or two local elections, depending upon on what area of Clinton they live in. The Clinton Chamber of Commerce will host a forum to give voters an opportunity to hear from mayoral candidates, incumbent David Berrong and challenger Chris Roland, and Ward 4 City Council candidates, incumbent Art Lloyd and challenger Bobby Stewart.

While all eyes are on Tuesday’s General Election at the national, state, and local level, there will be another filing period before the end of the calendar year. Prospective candidates who live within the Seat No. 5 District will be eligible to file for the Clinton Public School Board of Education.
