Graveside services for Barbara K. (Marrs) Millspaugh, 71 years old, a longtime resident of Weatherford, were held Monday, October 5, 2020, 10:00 A.M. at Greenwood Cemetery with Ric Freeman officiating. Services are under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Barbara was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to William Wyatt Marrs and Gladys Inez Carver on June 28, 1949 and passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020. She grew up in Oklahoma City and later attended high school in Norman, Oklahoma. Barbara served as Rush Chairman for the Alpha Phi Sorority at the University of Oklahoma, where she met the love of her life, Gary D. Millspaugh, on a blind date, in August 1970. Barbara and Gary married January 15, 1971, at Wesley Chapel on campus at the University of Oklahoma and shared 50 beautiful years together.
After earning a Masters of Psychometry Degree from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, she taught special education, first in Noble, then Atoka, Oklahoma. After moving with their young children to Weatherford in 1976, Barbara taught special education at Washington Elementary in Clinton before retiring to focus on caring for, and spoiling, her family. Her most favorite of all activities was bragging on her children to anyone who would listen.
Barbara was an active member of Life Fellowship Church in Weatherford, and she devoted much of her time to serving others as a volunteer for her church, Meals on Wheels, First Choice Pregnancy Care Center, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and one-on-one with countless individuals who needed a shoulder to cry on or a compassionate voice of encouragement.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Gary; her son, John, and wife, Dinese, of Weatherford; her daughter, Julie, and husband, Andy Carruth, also of Weatherford. Barbara loved and doted on her four grandchildren: Danny, Brendan, Rachel, and Courtney. She is also survived by her sister, Bonnie Trebbe, of Weatherford and nieces, Mandy and Barbie. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Billy Marrs.
Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Barbara was touched by her compassion and generosity. She exemplified the love of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, Barbara asked that memorials be made in her honor to the First Choice Pregnancy Care Center of Weatherford.
