Phyllis Barber, 77, of Clinton, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord in the early hours on Wednesday December 30th, 2020. Phyllis was born in Amarillo, Texas on November 16th, 1945. She grew up with her parents and horses in Kelton, Texas. After graduating Kelton High School, Phyllis continued her education and received her Nursing Degree from Amarillo College.
Phyllis was well known in the local nursing community, and served as a supervising RN for the Clinton Division Oklahoma Veteran Affairs Center for more than 22 years. Phyllis loved caring for her patients and always wanted to be a positive influence on everyone she met.
Phyllis was known for her love of her family, all animals, western movies and spreading the Word of God. She made sure that daily devotionals were sent to everyone whom she loved and loved her. Phyllis was always one to laugh and crack jokes, even when she wasn’t feeling great.
Everyone who knew her, knew that her family was the pride and joy of her life. Phyllis was an incredible mother to her only son Austin Barber, his wife Cara Barber, and her daughter by heart Mary Barber. Phyllis was the loving “Grommy” to her grandchildren Kelsey Barber, 9 and Atlas Barber, 3. Spending time laughing and playing games with her family was always the highlight of her day. Her favorite games were Uno and Yahtzee with Kelsey and “Gitcha” with Atlas. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents Opal and John Smith, and her lifelong best friend Teri Serfoss. Due to the current conditions, her family has made the difficult decision to not hold a public service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Clinton Veterans Center.
