Bud was born on November 14 th , 1937 in Great Bend Kansas and was the only son of Orville and Daisy Fowler. He spent his early youth in California while his parents supported the war effort. The rest of his youth was spent in Clinton, Oklahoma, where he graduated from High School in 1956. He attended the University of Oklahoma at Norman and graduated in 1962 with a degree in Pharmacy.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1962 as a 2 nd Lieutenant in the Infantry and served his first tour of duty in Germany. While stationed in Bamberg he met his future wife, Marion Gruessner. He travelled the world engaging in two combat tours in Vietnam as an Infantry Commander. He also served a year in Korea and then joined his family in Round Rock in 1980 while stationed at Fort Hood.
Bud retired from the Army as a Lt. Colonel in 1985 after 23 years of service. His military awards included the Silver Star, Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Service Star and the Army Commendation with three Oak Leaf clusters.
After his military retirement, he immediately started his second career as a Registered Pharmacist in Round Rock and throughout Central Texas. He retired from Pharmacy in 2010 after 25 years in the profession.
He was a faithful member of the Palm Valley Lutheran Church and a proud supporter of all things Round Rock. In retirement, Bud focused on being a devoted and loving Grandfather to the end as “Opa” to his four grandchildren.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents Orville and Daisy, his sister Marjorie, and his wife Marion of 51 years. He is survived by his Son, Elton and his wife Michele; Son, Matthew and his wife Lilly; and grandchildren, Tyler, Joshua, Logan, and Sophia.
A memorial will be held at Beck Funeral Chapel in Round Rock on Wednesday, January 27 th at 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to Texas Humane Heroes.
