Funeral Services for retired U.S. Army First Sergeant Virgil L. Thomas, 88, Clinton resident were held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, officiated by Doyle Kinney. Burial followed in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with military honors and under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.

Virgil Leo Thomas was born June 9, 1933 to Lee Roy Thomas and Easle (Thompson) Thomas in Clinton, OK and passed away Sunday, September 1, 2021 in the Oklahoma University Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK.

Virgil was raised and attended school in Clinton. He joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and He married LaVerne Snider in November of 1952 in Lawton, OK. He spent the next 22 years in the military, traveling extensively the entire world. He was stationed in Germany, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and several state side posts. He served both in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He received numerous commendations and awards for his service. He was honorably discharged and returned back to Custer County, OK.

He was employed in the oilfield and worked for Curleys Pipe Cleaning and Casing.

He was a member of the Chapel Hill Methodist Church; He was in numerous military organizations including American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Along with his wife, they enjoyed doing wood working and traveling together.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Easle Thomas and his step mother, Annie Thomas; two sons, Mark Thomas and Stacy Thomas; four brothers Ernest Thomas, Leon Thomas, Eugene Thomas, and Ronald Thomas.

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Thomas-Duvall, Clinton and four brothers, Estel Thomas, OKC, OK,, James Thomas, Clinton, OK, Charles Thomas, Elk City, OK and Donald Thomas, Clinton, OK.

He is also survived by six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
