Grover C. (G.C.) Rose, was born December 21, 1939 to Audie Ray Rose and Lavonia Pauline (Baker) Rose in the home of his grandparents Grover C. Rose and Bertha (Sanger) Baker north of Butler.

He lived his entire childhood in Butler attending college at Southwestern State. He met and married Valda (Val) Jean Garrison on March 10, 1961. To this union three sons were born, Mark, Dwain, Richard Eugene and Daryl Wade. As the boys were growing up, G.C. was very active in Cub Scout Pack 362, Nance School PTA, Clinton Jr. and Sr. High Band Boosters, football and wrestler’s booster clubs, t-ball and American Legion traveling baseball. When men’s and women’s softball started in Clinton, he was one of the original umpires.

He was hired by Southern Bell Telephone in April 1962 as Western Oklahoma was converting to dial. The first years he was a cable splicer covering El Reno to the state line and Woodward to Altus. Then he moved inside as deskman in Weatherford. The last twenty years he served as a long-distance technician in Clinton. Many may remember the old yellow pickup parked daily at 9th & Avant. He was known for his woodworking having restored the early Clinton home on 10th Street, his many yard decorations and porch swings. He was also known for his gardening, homemade bread, pasta, jerky and sausage.

Following his forty years with Ma Belle, he retired to the Lake Eufaula area where he gardened, traveled and cared for ailing family members.
