Lucille (Lenaburg) Howell was born July 14, 1926, to Albert R. Lenaburg and Annetta (Steigman) Lenaburg, on their farm west of Bessie, OK and passed peacefully from this life Friday, February 4, 2022, at her home of 76 years, with her family at her side. She was raised on her family farm, west of Bessie, and attended Harrington Country School, across the road from her home, where she completed her primary education. She then transferred to Cordell and graduated in 1944 as a Cordell Blue Devil. She was married to Harold Howell on December 15, 1946, at the Peace Lutheran Church. Two children were born of this union, Linda Lucille in 1950 and Lynn Dale in 1955. Lucille was a country girl, her father’s only son, with a love for the land and livestock that was unwavering. She was small in stature, but her love for life was immense. She had a special ability to be tough, stern, and fearless in order to operate her farm, but tender, amusing, and vulnerable enough to raise a family all in the same moment. Her relentless drive provided her family with opportunity and direction that lives on today.
She had many hobbies including raising chickens, baking apple pies, getting her hair done, talking to friends by phone or letter, collecting toothpick holders, watching Hallmark Christmas movies and John Wayne; however, her passion for sports was unmatched. From grade school to the pros - football, basketball, baseball, over 80 years of Blue Devil athletes, teams, families, and friends - she loved them all.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Peace Lutheran Church where she has been a faithful and lifetime member.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Annetta, daughter, Linda and a sister.
She loved her family with all her heart, and they all came first in her life. She leaves behind her son, Lynn Dale Howell, daughter-in-law, Desiree Howell, grandson, Landry Howell and girlfriend, Kellie Griffin, all of Bessie, OK, granddaughter Jentry Spitz and husband, Leathern, and two great-grandchildren, Zoe Howell and Ezekiel Spitz, of Canute, OK.
