Dwain Andrew Kamphaus was born on August 30, 1939 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Pauline Agnes (Mahl) and Franklin George Kamphaus. He passed away February 5, 2022 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 6 days.
Dwain mainly grew up in the Canute and Burns Flat communities. He attended school in Burns Flat and graduated in 1957.
Shortly after graduation he was married to Clarine Faye Rich in Canute, Oklahoma on August 5, 1961. Dwain says he married the only girl in Canute he wasn’t kin to. After their marriage they moved to Elk City where Dwain worked as brick mason and Clarine was a homemaker.
They moved to Clinton in 1971 shortly after Dwain started his career with Public Service Company of Oklahoma. For the next 49 years they made their home in Clinton, Oklahoma where they raised their family.
Dwain was very involved in the community as a member of the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus. He worked for Public Service Company of Oklahoma from 1970 until his retirement in 2010. He loved his job and he loved serving his community.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, talking politics, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. Dwain loved family gatherings, he didn’t know a stranger, and he was well known for his storytelling skills. Dwain was a one of kind modern day version John Wayne that is gone too soon. He will be missed by many countless family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Paul Kamphaus, and his wife, Clarine.
Dwain is survived by his 3 children, Aaron Kamphaus and wife, Gwili, Canute, OK, Shannon Zeiser and husband, Donald, Maxwell, IA, and Kim Sotomayor and husband, Robert, Tucson, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Corey Kamphaus, Dr. Jered Stowers and fiancé Alexandra Black, Kyle Zeiser, and Joshua Zeiser and wife, Hannah; 3 great-grandchildren, Emery, Kendall, and Myles Zeiser; 3 brothers, David Kamphaus, Tim Kamphaus and wife, Jo and John Kamphaus and wife, Tamara, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Prayer vigil services will be on Thursday, February 17th, 2022 at 6:30 PM at the St. Matthew Catholic Church officiated by Father Danny Grover. Mass of Christian Burial services will be Friday, February 18th, 2022 at St. Matthew Catholic Church at 10:30 A.M. also officiated by Father Danny Grover. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Family Cemetery under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West.
