LaDenta Ann (Stevenson) Carpenter of Butler Oklahoma blessed and honored us with her presence for 78 years.
She gained her wings on Monday, October 2nd, 2023, in Oklahoma City, OK.
LaDenta was born on June 11th, 1945, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to the late Roy Dent and Betty Jo (Lambert) Stevenson.
Her early years were spent in Custer City, Oklahoma where she graduated from Custer City High School in 1963. LaDenta was involved in basketball, cheerleading, and FHA. While in High School she was selected as the Basketball Queen, Most Athletic, and selected as a Girls State Delegate.
Following High School, she continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
On March 20th, 1964, she was united in marriage to the love of her life L.D. Carpenter. L.D. was the first to notice LaDenta in Junior High as he recalls her being the cutest brunette basketball player he had ever seen on the court. They were blessed with the births of three children: Leah Dawn, Lance Darren, and Lake Dion. They started their family northwest of Butler on the dairy farm. A few years later they moved north of Butler and continued to farm and ranch. Later, they moved to the town of Butler and made their permanent home. In 1983 L.D. and LaDenta built from the ground up the Cowboy Kwik Stop. They owned and operated the Kwik Stop for 5 years.
LaDenta managed and worked 7 days a week outside the home while she also was the ultimate homemaker for her family.
LaDenta was proud to be a member and serve the Butler First Baptist Church as the pianist for Sunday morning worship for twenty plus years.
Her legacy definitely lives on as her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are all involved in the Church. In addition to her church service, her love and passion was watching her family participate in many activities, especially the game of basketball. LaDenta was a fierce competitor who played as hard in the stands as the kids on the court.
LaDenta was always busy doing something or going somewhere.
She and L.D. were permanent fixtures at most high school basketball games. They were even known to switch sides at halftime when their children were coaching against one another.
It was extremely important to LaDenta to show support for both of her children and their teams. Besides following sports LaDenta and L.D. could be seen at other activities such as musical performances and following the one child that was not a coach.
LaDenta loved her family and lived life. She never met a stranger and always had a way to connect with people. LaDenta was known to dress for perfection, and she expected everyone to look and do their best.
Throughout her life LaDenta was a supporter of the Butler community and all western Oklahoma.
Proceeding her in death were her parents Roy and Betty Stevenson. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, L.D. Carpenter. La-Denta’s legacy will be passed on by her three children, Leah Dawn and husband Todd Beer of Hammon; Lance Darren and wife Kelsey Carpenter of Leedey and Lake Dion Carpenter of Leedey; nine grandchildren, Tobey Nightingale and husband Brett, Tatum Ridling and husband Ryan, Tate Beer and wife Haley, Taber Miller and husband Bailey, Landon Carpenter and wife Ali, Luke Carpenter and wife Randie, Kraiton Carpenter, Kaysa Carpenter and Kya Carpenter; twelve great-grandchildren Camden, Bracket, Wrigley, Dodger, Rance, Wryn, Thatcher, Bishop, Buster, Lane, Logan and Ledger; one sister, Vicki Simpson. She also leaves behind many friends and other relatives.
