Carol “Joan” Dobbs of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 18, 2023. Joan was born on February 15, 1943. She was the daughter of George and Ora Belle Higgins originally from Butler, Oklahoma and later long-time residents of Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Joan graduated from Butler High School and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. She taught high school English and yearbook for many years at Clinton High School, in Clinton, Oklahoma as well as working in the advertising department at the Clinton Daily News. She also sold insurance for several years.

In college, Joan was a member of Kappa Sigma and remained close friends with her sorority sisters throughout her life. Joan married Kenneth Dobbs, and even though they divorced in 1988, they remained life-long friends who were committed to their children and grand-chil-dren until Kenneth passed away in 2004. Joan was an avid reader and collected books from multiple genres that she would read and reread throughout her life.

Joan is survived by her two children Kenna Ford of Weatherford, Oklahoma and Holly Clarke of Southlake, Texas, her three grandchildren, Shawn Taylor Weisheit of Dallas, Texas; Bailey Michelle Clarke of Krum, Texas, and Julia Mackenzie Clarke, of Southlake, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Ora Belle Higgins and her two brothers Jimmy and Larry Higgins.
