Violet Arlene (Troyer) Miller was born October 13, 1926, near Conway, Kansas, Violet was the daughter of Ora and Lydia Ann (Miller) Troyer. Violet passed away April 6th, 2024, in Goessel, Kansas.

At age 4, the family moved to the Kalona, Iowa area.

She attended a one room country school when she came of school age. She was blessed by having Christian parents and teachers, and accepted Christ at a young age, dedicating her life to living her faith in the Mennonite Church.

After two years of high school in Kalona, she graduated from Hesston Academy in 1944, also receiving one year of college credit then spent another year at Eastern Mennonite College. At Hesston and Eastern, she sang in their choirs, an octet, and quartet. As a young adult she enjoyed teaching Bible School and Sunday School. Violet moved to Kansas City where she worked for a year as a Nurse’s Aid in the St. Lukes Hospital.

After graduating as a Registered Nurse from the LaJunta Mennonite School of Nursing in 1949 in LaJunta, Colorado, she followed the Nursing profession until retiring fortyeight years later.

In August of 1950, Violet was married to Donald R. Miller.

They made their home on a farm close to Hydro, Oklahoma. Four children were born, completing the family. She enjoyed homemaking and gardening, with part-time nursing until the children were older.

The family moved and established a residence in Clinton, Oklahoma.

Employment was in the Weatherford, Cordell, and Clinton hospitals in medical, surgical, and intensive care wards as floor nurse and supervisory roles.

After the death of her husband, Violet moved to Hickory Homes in Hesston.

She enjoyed her hobbies of reading, crocheting, flowers, quilting, and time spent volunteering at the Et Cetera Shop in Newton, and at the Villa.

Preceding her in death was her spouse, Donald, her parents, both sisters (Olive Brenneman, Ruth Wyse), a granddaughter Avalon Monroe, and a greatgrandson Samuel Schenewolf. She is survived by her four children; Richard, Curtis and his wife Christine, Rachel, and Terry and his wife Marianne.

There are 7 grandchildren; Curtis Edward Miller, Melissa Richey, Cori Hale, Laila Wheeler, Cameo Hughes, Hilda Alexander, and Josephine Schenewolf. There are twenty (20) greatgrandchildren and two (2) great-great grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Pine Acres Mennonite Church, Weatherford, OK. Inurnment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Hydro, OK. A memorial service was held on April 11 at Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston, KS.
