Memorial Services for Betty Fry, 100, former Clinton educator, will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 29, 2020 in the First Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Chris Fields and under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK.
Betty (Wright) Fry was born January 1, 1920 to Lucian Marvin Wright and Clara Alma (Pope) Wright in Butler, Oklahoma and passed away early Tuesday, February 25, 2020 in the Grace Living Center in Clinton, Oklahoma.
Betty was raised in Butler where she attended and graduated from Butler Schools. She continued her education at Southwestern in Weatherford, OK and Oklahoma University in Norman, OK as well as several other institutions. In 1943 she married her childhood sweetheart, David Fry.
Betty’s husband was a career military man; served in the U.S. Marines and spent time in Bangkok, Thailand, New Delhi, India and Paris, France. Betty followed him when allowed and she taught English in several schools in the United States as well as many foreign countries.
The Frys ended their military career in 1964 and made their home in Clinton. Mrs. Fry taught English for several years in Clinton Public Schools and later became the librarian until her retirement.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Chapter BR-P.E.O. and Worthwhile. Betty and David Fry were avid Clinton Red Tornado Fans and enjoyed other sporting activities as well. She loved to read and stay in touch with current activities in her city, state and country.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters, Margaret Coulson and husband, Louis, Bob Wright and wife Audi Ruth, Marvin Wright, Jr. and wife, Virginia, Dorothy Wright and her (infant) twin brother, Donald Wright, Lucian Wright and wife Margaret and his twin brother Lelan Wright and wife, Wynema and Mary Welch and husband, Jim.
