Dorothy Lea Allman Burgtorf, R.N., 94, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, of Willow Park, Texas, formerly of Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, June 17, 2020, in her home. Memorial and graveside services will be held at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery, Custer, Oklahoma.
Dorothy was born on November 24, 1925, in Norman, Oklahoma to Ora and Nora Allman in the midst of the Great Depression. She was a lovely bright gift to the world from day one. Her sweet personality and sense of carried her through good and difficult times. Dorothy married Richard H. Burgtorf, MD, on January 30, 1946 and enjoyed the blessings of a 57 year marriage with 6 children, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was an RN and a certified electrologist. She loved cooking, flowers, gardening, “sipping teas and coffee” on her front porch, she read at least two books per week, and cherished time with family and friends.
Dorothy will affectionately be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and was a friend to many. Even strangers and passing acquaintances were taken by her charm and sweetness. Dorothy is survived by her children, Kathryn DeLea Herber Ph.D. of Benbrook, Texas, Richard Robert Burgtorf and wife Lana of Shattuck, Oklahoma, Anita Pauwels of Willow Park, Texas, Laura Burns of St. Augustine, Florida, Donna K. Bray of Southlake, Texas, Carol A. Kines of Ponte Vedra, Florida, and by 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Burgtorf, M.D., his brother Conrad and wife Dorothy Burgtorf, her beloved sister, Nita Ellington and husband Everett, her nephew, Paul H. Herber, and many extended family members.
