Edyth Maxine Carr, a long-time resident of Arapaho, Oklahoma, departed this life after a short battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in the hospital, in St. Joseph, MO, on June 18, 2020 with family at her bedside. She was welcomed into heaven by her husband Melvin and parents Nina and Dewey Smith.
Edyth was born in Saginaw, Michigan, October 18, 1940. Her family moved to Anthony, Kansas in the spring of 1953 when she was 12. She graduated from Anthony High School in 1958.
She attended beauty college for a short time before marrying Melvin Carr, March 15, 1959. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Arapaho, Oklahoma, to start their family.
In December 2007 she moved in with her daughter (Sandra) in Colorado. Then, in January 2015, she moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, with Sandra and her husband.
Edyth was a homemaker and was very active in her church. She loved to sing at church. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting and reading. She also volunteered in several care facilities in the Denver area, where her daughter worked.
She is survived by her six children, Sandra Gilham (MO), Wayne Carr (KS), Judith Roth (NY), Karen Briddle (TX), Melanie Armstrong (TX), and Eldred Carr (NM); two sisters, Alice Chandler (TX) and Julia Werner (MI); as well as many grandkids and great grandkids. There are many others who considered her family and a friend who will miss her dearly.
She will be laid to rest in Attica, Kansas, next to her husband. Graveside services will be scheduled at a later date.
