Frank Asa Sewell III, of Clinton, was born the first of two children to Frank Asa Sewell Jr. and Barbara Berry Sewell on December 3, 1948 in Clinton, Oklahoma. He died peacefully in his home on the evening of October 16, 2023 at the age of 74.
Frank, known as “F.A.,” was blessed to lead a long and happy life. He loved nothing more than a great hat, a laugh, and a joke with his friends and family. His reserved spirit when it came to helping others was always something that he preferred to keep private. F.A. attended Clinton Public Schools and completed his high school education at Culver Military Academy in 1967. He continued his education at Oklahoma University. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity where he made many lifelong friends.
His sophomore year of college, he met his wife, Lucie Leaf. They were married on April 4, 1970, and he continued on with his education and graduated in 1971 with a degree in Finance. After graduating from OU, F.A. served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer in Augusta, Georgia. He then returned to his hometown of Clinton in 1972, where he served in the Clinton Army Reserves and began his career in banking at First National Bank. He and Lucie welcomed their first son, Frank, in 1972, and their second son, Berry, in 1974.
In his banking career that spanned 50 years, F.A. served in many roles and on a variety of boards for professional and civic groups. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Bank & Trust Company in Clinton for a number of years. He also served on the boards of the Clinton Industrial Foundation, Clinton Chamber of Commerce, Oklahoma Easter Seals, Advantage Health Insurance Trust, Oklahoma Bankers Association, and the Oklahoma Heritage Association. F.A. was a longtime member of the Clinton Rotary Club and he also served as Vice-Chairman of the University of Oklahoma Foundation as well as Chairman of the foundation’s investment committee. F.A truly enjoyed being an active and vocal participant in any organization in which he was involved, especially those serving his hometown of Clinton.
F.A. was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lucie; son Frank Asa Sewell IV and his wife Amy; son Berry Leaf Sewell and his wife Adrienne; grandchildren Luke Austin Sewell, Andrew Berry Sewell, Sydney Lorraine Sewell, Frank Asa Sewell V, AnnaKate Eliza Ross, and Olivia Emmaline Ross; sister Sally Wightman and husband Bob; and brother-inlaw Steve Lobaugh.
