A Mass of Christian Burial for Ira Rayner, 100, Clinton businessman, will be held 10:00 Friday, January 24, 2020, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiated by Father Balaswamy Mandagiri. Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
A Rosary Service will be held 6:00 P.M., Thursday, January 23, 2020 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel.
Ira Lee Rayner was born May 21, 1919, to Frank and Mabel (Hall) Rayner in Custer City, Oklahoma, and passed away Saturday, January 19, 2020, in the Oklahoma University Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK.
Ira was raised in the Custer City area. He started working at the age of 3, feeding the animals, and at the age of 5 he started rounding up and milking the cows. He attended his first school at Prairie View and transferred to Independence School and then graduated from Arapaho High School in 1938.
Rayner joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and served during World War II. He served in several foreign countries, including England, Australia, Germany and France.
He met Mary Mitchell while in London, England, and they were married December 9, 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and they returned to Custer County.
He first farmed and worked for Collins and Maddox Feed Store, and then for Singer Sewing Machines for 20 years. He owned and operated a sewing machine shop in downtown Clinton and worked there until he was almost 99 years old.
Rayner was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, going to the lake, and boating.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; four brothers, Benjamin Rayner, Don Rayner, Ray Rayner and Keith Rayner; five sisters, Marie Rayner, Betty Townsend, Alta Mae Sauerman, Bonnie Clindtoning and Beulah Rayner.
He is survived by his four sons, Ira Terrance Rayner of California, Robert Francis Rayner of Oklahoma City, Chris Rayner of Clinton, and Danny Rayner and wife Jeanette of Oklahoma City.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jonathan Rayner, Brandon Rayner, Brian Rayner, Matthew Rayner, Lilliana Keding, Danielle Dodson and Michelle Adams; and four great-grandchildren, George, Zachary, Anabella and Apollo.
