Jarvis June Herndon was born January 17, 1938 in Hammon, Oklahoma to Ben B. and Beulah Bentley. She entered into the presence of Jesus on February 13, 2025, at the age of 87 years and 27 days at the home of her daughter, Linda Bridge, in Normanna, Texas.
Known as June to her family and friends, she grew up in Hammon, and finished her senior year of high school at Leedey, Oklahoma. On July 17, 1955, she married Fred Loy Zimmerman, of Leedey. From that union were born Nancy, Larry, Jerry, Nathan and Linda. She lived and raised her family in Oklahoma City and Del City for several decades. In June 2001 she married Wendell Herndon. They lived in various places in Oklahoma and Texas before returning to Elk City, Oklahoma in May of 2013. She and Wendell remained together until his passing in January 2022.
June is remembered as a most wonderful woman and mother, whose kind and gentle heart impacted everyone who knew her. She loved people, and was a friend the moment you met her. She especially loved all her grandchildren, doting on them at every opportunity.
Without doubt, her most important contribution was her faith in God, which was instrumental in her children believing in Christ at an early age. She is the person who set our feet upon the path to knowledge of the only One who can save our souls. And now, she sees Him face to face upon His throne of glory, as He has said to her, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” We will miss her greatly, and are filled with joyful peace that she lives forever more with her Savior, Jesus. She wanted all to know, “I’m with Jesus, now, resting in my Father’s arms!”
June requested we share this special poem, by Mary E. Frye, 1932: Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain, I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am the morning hush, I am in the graceful rush Of beautiful birds in circling flight.
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom, I am in a quiet room, I am in the birds that sing, I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not here — I do not die.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sons, Larry Glynn and Jerry Lynn; 1 brother, Jay, and 3 sisters, Maxine, Wanda, and Marjorie.
June is survived by her 3 children and 1 step-son: Nancy Cochran and husband Danny; Nathan Loy Zimmerman and wife Naomi; Linda Bridge and husband Robert; and Johnny Herndon; Grandchildren: Christina, Candice, Matthew, William, Sarah, Kelly, Nathanael, Carissa, Ronnie, Harley, and Johnny: Greatgrandchildren: Tristan, Declan, Rowan, Sadie, Vaden Loy, Sybil, Rowan, Dorian, Drake, Ayden, Austin, Alex, Brantlee, Alia, Malaikye, Zaidyn, and Wendell; 2 sisters, Betty Cordum and Glenda Tomberlin; and a host of other cherished relatives and friends.
