Diana Kay Meacham Pyle was born May 22, 1945, on a farm in rural Custer County, just west of Clinton, Oklahoma, to Clint and Willie Mae “Billie” Meacham. She passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.
Growing up in a rodeo family, Kay spent her adolescent years on horseback working cattle, handling farm chores and having fun in barrel racing competitions in rodeos across Oklahoma. She was also involved in music, drama, and was an accomplished pianist.
From an early age, Kay loved taking on leadership responsibilities to make a positive difference in the lives of others, holding roles in student government and other civic clubs. Those who knew Kay best, said most importantly she was a devout and trusted friend who would go out of her way to help anyone in need. After graduating with honors from Clinton High School, Kay went on to attend the University of Oklahoma. While there, her natural drive and focus didn’t change. She was an active member of Chi Omega Sorority. She also was active in other organizations with a focus on creating a better tomorrow.
After graduating from OU with a bachelor’s degree in 1967, Kay began her career working in the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a child welfare specialist. Her experiences in child welfare created a burning desire in Kay to expand her influence to help create hope and a positive difference in the lives of others. Although Kay decided to start a family and have children a few years after graduation, she never stopped working. Kay would ultimately move on to supervisor roles in multiple counties and ultimately on to the Garvin County Administrator and Director in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, where she retired in 1997.
Over the years, Kay enjoyed wonderful relationships with so many people. Those who knew her best would tell you Kay found purpose in making a positive difference in the lives of others, and everyone who truly knew her was better because of her. Most importantly, Kay found purpose in family. There was nothing more important to her than her husband, Jerry, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved each one of them uniquely and unconditionally. Kay was truly special. She loved with her whole heart, deeply, passionately, and unconditionally. She was so loved and will be missed by all.
