Marilyn Mitchell Meacham Gibson was born on July 24, 1931, to Lewis M. and Blanche Mae Mitchell in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She passed away surrounded by her two daughters in Norman, Oklahoma, on April 5, 2024.
Marilyn was born in Oklahoma City and moved to Clinton, Oklahoma, as a child with her parents and older brother, Richard L.
Mitchell. She attended Clinton Public Schools and graduated in 1949. After graduation she attended Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee. She married her childhood sweetheart, E. J. “Pepper” Meacham, Jr., on October 21, 1951. While Pepper was in the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Panama where they lived until 1954. They then returned to Norman, Oklahoma, for Pepper to attend law school at the University of Oklahoma.
Upon his graduation, they returned to Clinton, where they lived for many years while raising their three children, Maryjo, Jeanne and Bert.
Marilyn was a homemaker, participated in her children’s activities, local community events, Friday bridge and was known for her classy style. A friend said “Marilyn was the most put together lady I have ever met; always dressed to the nine’s and classy as they come, but a bit sassy at the same time!”
Her first love, Pepper, proceeded her in death in December of 1984. Marilyn continued to live in Clinton until she moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, in March 1990 when she married Morris “Hoot” Gibson.
Marilyn and Hoot enjoyed traveling, dancing, being with friends and family and Sooner Football.
Marilyn and Hoot moved to Norman, Oklahoma, in 2017.
Marilyn was lucky enough to have two great loves, and she was truly at home being a wife. She prided herself on being there for them and her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters Maryjo Meacham and her partner, Russel Pace, Jeanne Snider and her husband, Kerby, grandchildren, Abby Burke and her husband, Trey, Bert Snider and his wife, Manami; her great-grandchildren, Kynlee Lynn Smith, Sawyer Mae Smith and Millie Snider, her niece Kari Derrick and her husband, Michael; her nephew, Charles Meacham Wheeler; step-children Cheryl Benson and husband Larry, their children Adrienne Guthrie and her husband, Ben, and their children Taylor, Hailey and Sydnee, and Alexandra Milliken and her husband, John, with a baby due in the Fall; Steve Gibson and wife Lezli, Janet Hoppe and husband Dyke, and their children Jay Hoppe and Reed Hoppe and his wife, Kyndal and daughter Wilee.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, her son, Bert Mitchell Meacham, her brother and sister-in-law, Richard L. and Betty Mitchell, her brotherin- law and sister-inlaw, Charles V. and Maryjo Wheeler, her nephew Thomas L.
Mitchell and niece, Allison A. Wheeler.
