Final rites for former Clinton retailer Mary Powers, 79, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel with Paul Fuentes Jr. officiating.
The former Mary Katherine Dawson was born May 24, 1940, at Custer City to Henry and Esther Snell Dawson. She died Monday at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Raised in the Clinton area, she attended school at Custer City before graduating from Clinton High School.
She was married to Jan Riggle in 1959 at Clinton and to Steve Powers in 1981 at Wheeler, Texas.
Mary owned and operated a laundromat on Third Street in Clinton for several years. She also owned and operated the Fourth Street Grocery here for 15 years.
In 1986 she moved to Las Cruces, N.M., where she managed a trading post.
Mary had attended the First Church of God. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Fuentes and husband Paul of Clinton, and Cheryl Jaquez, Oklahoma City; one son, Danny Riggle, Clinton; one brother, Bill Dawson, Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Leon Dawson, and three sisters, Wanda Hileman, Vera Pope and Leona Friesen.
Services are under direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
