Funeral services for Ruth Higgins, 71, of Hammon, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Hammon Public Schools auditorium.
She died Monday, May 27, 2019, in her home at Hammon.
Ruth Cecelia Higgins was born Sept. 20, 1947, to George Little Elk and Mary Etta (Hayes) Little Elk in Clinton. She was raised in White Shield Camps north of Hammon.
She moved to Hammon when she was 12 years old and attended Hammon School.
She later moved to Dallas, Texas, and then married William Robert Higgins in Wheeler, Texas.
Higgins worked as a nanny and then for a meteorologist at a television station.
In 1968 she returned to Hammon where she was employed with Hammon Public Schools in the cafeteria. She also worked for the Leedey Nursing Home, the Cheyenne Nursing Home, Love’s Country Store and Hammon Corner Store.
Higgins was a member of the Pentecostal Church. She loved sewing, gardening, collecting knick-knacks and going to garage sales.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Thelma Little Elk; a brother, Morgan Little Elk; and her adopted parents, Curtis and Bev Page.
Survivors include five daughters, Bridget
Higgins of Hammon, Mary Jo White and husband William of Albuquerque,
N.M., Lillie Martinez of Mesa, Ariz., Jennifer Higgins of Hammon, and Lila Kauk and husband Dane of Clinton; three adopted sons, Frank White Skunk Jr.of Towaoc, Colo., Moses Santos of Hammon, Donald Miles Jr. of Hammon; an adopted daughter, Alisun Little Coyote of Hammon; an adopted brother, Nick Standingwater of Hammon; a nephew, Greg Little Elk of Elk City; and a niece, Michelle Coker of Yukon.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
There will be a family visitation from 6-8 p.m. today in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel.
The service will be officiated by Rev. Jan Phillips and Rev. Dolan Ivey and under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
