On April 21, the Clinton City Council approved hiring a law firm from Dallas to represent the city after the owners of the Glancy Motel, SWAYAM Properties, LLC, filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in the United States District Court for Eastern Texas. The city is involved in the bankruptcy because it has condemned the Glancy Motel property at 217 Gary Blvd. for safety and health reasons.

Gone fishing

Paul Brunton is using his downtime during the COVID-19 pandemic to fish at Acme Brick Park’s lake. Many Clintonites are doing the same, using proper social distancing precautions. Anyone looking to fish this weekend may want to go early in the day with highs reaching almost into the triple digits.

After being forced to cancel its monthly cleanup event the first Saturday in April, Clinton Economic Development Authority (CEDA) is resuming its ClintonFirst cleanup events this month with a special Acme Brick Park playground project.

Custer County now apparently has no active cases of COVID-19, according to information tracked by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

Seniors Helping Seniors

Arapaho-Butler High School 2020 seniors created the “Seniors Helping Seniors” program to generate some positivity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Seven A-B seniors wrote letters to residents of Grace Living Center, Clinton Living Center and Angelwood Assisted Living. In the letter, they included a picture of themselves and a stuffed animal. Tack Sappington, left, and Kyle Scott delivered the letters to Angelwood. Zach Carlisle, Amy Jo Shepherd, Brittney Cannaley, Chaley Shepherd and Jace Edelen also participated.

Oklahoma climbs to third in the country for Pre-K access for 4-year-olds, according to a new report from the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER). In the same report last year, Oklahoma scored among the top eight states in the nation.

At this time of lock down and shut-outs and restricted visitation for family and friends of residents in long-term care, it is very important that we make sure to stay in contact with both loved ones and staff.
