An Elk City man claims it was an accidental shooting that took the life of a Weatherford woman despite law enforcement officials visiting with the couple hours before she died.

Custer County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Dan Brownfield assisted in an alleged high-speed chase early Monday morning, continued his pursuit through gunfire, glass shrapnel to his face and a ricocheted bullet to his vest to help bring the chase to an end with the suspects behind bars.
